Choose a shade and film with good optical clarity. Extremely dark glass can make low-light visibility more difficult, especially around unlit roads and parking areas.
Discuss the desired appearance and ensure the selected shade remains suitable for the vehicle, window position and current local requirements.

Read the specification
Headline percentages can be misleading when two films are measured differently. Ask for the technical data for the exact film series and shade, then compare the same metric on both products.
VLT describes how much visible light passes through the glass and film. A lower VLT normally looks darker. It does not, by itself, prove better heat rejection.
UV performance concerns ultraviolet radiation. It matters for occupant exposure and interior fading, but it is separate from total solar heat performance.
IR figures describe performance in an infrared range selected by the manufacturer. Check the test method and do not compare an IR figure directly with TSER.
TSER considers rejected solar energy across a wider spectrum. It is often more useful for like-for-like heat comparisons when the glass and test conditions are equivalent.
Quote and scope
A useful quote should identify the vehicle, glass coverage, film series, shade, removal work and warranty. A single starting price without that scope is difficult to compare.
A coupe, sedan, SUV and vehicle with a panoramic roof require different quantities of film and installation time. Curved or complex glass can also change the work.
Dyed, carbon, ceramic and premium multilayer films have different specifications and prices. Confirm the exact product rather than accepting only a generic “ceramic” label.
Confirm whether the quote covers side glass, rear screen, quarter glass, sunroof or panoramic roof. Windshield work must be checked against current legal and vehicle requirements.
Old adhesive, bubbling film and delicate rear demister lines can add time. Removal should be assessed before the new film is priced.
Ask whether the written warranty covers bubbling, peeling, cracking, colour change and adhesive failure, and note any exclusions or care conditions.
Scratches, chips, damaged seals, aftermarket antennas and previous glass work should be recorded before installation.
Vehicle-specific checks
Many SUVs already have dark rear privacy glass. Its appearance does not automatically tell you its UV or solar-energy performance. The glass and any added film must be assessed as a combined system.
Large roof glass can be a major source of radiant heat, but film suitability depends on the glass construction, existing coating and manufacturer guidance. It should be checked rather than included automatically.
Removal and installation around printed demister lines or glass-mounted antennas needs care. Existing damage should be photographed before work begins.
Coupe, convertible and frameless-door glass can move when the door opens. Film fit and curing instructions should account for that movement and the window seals.
Film must not obstruct driver-assistance cameras, sensor zones, head-up-display areas or other vehicle-specific glass features.
Quality check
The film should follow the usable glass area consistently without avoidable gaps, lifted corners or contaminated edges.
Inspect the film from inside for unexpected haze, distortion, creases and trapped contamination. Temporary installation moisture should be explained separately.
