Car colour-change cost

A new colour is more than a same-colour respray. Preparation, dismantling, door openings and your chosen finish determine the work and the price.

Use this range to plan a painted colour change, then get a quote for your actual vehicle. A roof-only change, removable finish or extensive restoration needs a separate estimate.

Permanent or removable?

Paint, vinyl or peelable colour?

Start with the condition of your car and whether you want to keep the new colour long term. These methods change the appearance in different ways.

Permanent finish

A painted colour change

For a lasting new colour, with agreed bodywork and surface preparation completed underneath. The job can include exposed edges and door openings as well as the outer panels.

Paint does not peel off to reveal the original finish later. Returning to the original colour means another repaint.

Plan a painted change
Film over suitable paint

A vinyl colour wrap

A removable appearance change on a suitable existing surface. It can be worth comparing when your paint is sound and retaining it matters to you.

Wrapping does not repair rust, dents or peeling paint. Removal risk depends on the original surface, past repainting, film and removal method. Ask us to confirm available film options and installation arrangements.

Discuss a removable finish
Sprayed removable coating

Peelable colour

A sprayed coating designed for later removal when the specified system, application and underlying surface are suitable.

Agree the exact product, coverage, care and removal conditions. It is not conventional permanent paint, vinyl or a reason to skip preparation.

Check peelable options

Coloured paint protection film is another product category, not ordinary vinyl. Clear PPF protects without creating a new body colour. Compare the materials, finish, removal and separate product warranties in our repaint versus wrap comparison.

Find your finish

Choose more than a colour

The same shade can feel very different in gloss, metallic, pearl or a low-gloss finish. Select a starting preference and carry it into your enquiry.

Your preferred finish

These swatches show finish ideas, not an exact paint match or a preview of your car. Screen colours and photographs vary. Approve a physical sample and the recorded colour or product reference before work starts.

Decide where the old colour stops

Open the door.
Check the colour too.

A car can look completely different with its doors closed, yet show the original colour when you open them. Agree those details before comparing quotations.

Exterior panels
Specify the bonnet, roof, doors, fenders, rear panels, boot or tailgate and painted bumper areas. Identify contrasting trims or parts you want left unchanged.
Door openings and edges
Door shuts, jambs, returns and accessible edges are additional coverage. Confirm which areas can be prepared properly and what removal work is needed.
Bonnet and boot openings
Visible inner edges and openings need their own agreement. Painting an outer bonnet does not automatically include its underside or the engine bay.
Deep hidden areas
Engine-bay and other extensively dismantled areas are a separate project discussion, not a standard full-exterior inclusion.
Refinishing a car door alongside protected surrounding areas
Agree the panel edges, openings and protected areas before painting.
Permission before the paintwork

Plan the Dubai approvals

Changing the registered colour is a vehicle modification, not just a workshop booking. Confirm the required permission before starting, then complete the applicable inspection and vehicle-record update.

  1. Confirm the proposed change

For a Dubai-registered vehicle, check the colour-change permission process with Dubai Police and the registration requirements with RTA. Have your vehicle ownership details, identification, current-car photos and proposed colour ready; follow the current official checklist.

  2. Book the approved work

Agree the finish and painted areas with us, then arrange the workshop slot once the required permission is in place. Workshop approval of a paint sample is not government approval.

  3. Complete the vehicle-record update

After the change, follow the authority’s inspection and registration-amendment instructions before normal road use. Notify your insurer and keep the updated vehicle documents with the repair invoice.

Designed around your car

Make the whole look work

Bring a photograph, a paint reference or a small shortlist. We discuss the body colour alongside existing wheels, roof rails, grilles, chrome, black trim and interior colours.

A contrasting roof, mirror caps or selected accents can change the character without repainting every exterior panel. Each accent is quoted separately, including preparation and whether the part needs removal.

For a full change, a light-to-dark or dark-to-light combination makes exposed original-colour edges more noticeable. That is why sample selection and coverage belong in the same conversation.

We assess daily-use cars, SUVs, luxury and performance vehicles individually. Materials, previous repainting, panel condition and the parts fitted matter more than a generic package for a particular badge.

Keeping your original colour instead? Our car painting service covers matched panel repairs and same-colour exterior repaints.

Good preparation comes first

How the colour change happens

  1. Inspect and write the quote

Identify dents, corrosion, peeling clear coat and previous repairs. Record the approved colour, finish, areas being painted, removal work, charges and expected collection date.

  2. Prepare and protect

Complete the agreed body repairs and preparation. Remove appropriate fittings and protect glass, rubbers, openings, wiring and components outside the painting work.

  3. Apply the agreed paint system

Follow the compatible primer, colour and finish process, with the product-specific application and curing requirements. Any extra damage discovered is discussed before additional work.

  4. Refit and review

Reassemble the agreed components, check the finish and affected fittings, and review the painted areas with you. Keep the colour reference for future repairs.

Arrange your time without the car

How long does it take?

5–10 daysPlanning guide for a full painted colour change.
3–5 daysPlanning guide for a smaller or partial painted change.

These are estimates, not guaranteed collection dates. The booking depends on preparation, body repairs, painted openings, trim removal, material availability and the chosen paint system.

Government approvals and registration work have their own timing. Extensive restoration or hidden-area painting can take longer. Tell us about travel, work or a particular deadline before booking.

Ask about inspection charges and any transport arrangements before drop-off. They are confirmed separately rather than assumed to be free.

Choose the care as well as the colour

Looking after the new finish

Fresh paint

Follow the handover instructions for washing, curing and protection. Confirm the appropriate timing before adding wax, ceramic coating or PPF; these are separate products and services.

Matte and satin

Use products intended for the actual low-gloss finish. Ordinary polishing, abrasive treatments and gloss-enhancing waxes can alter the appearance. PPG’s matte-finish care guidance explains why low-gloss paint needs different treatment.

Future repairs

Save the colour reference, product information and invoice. Special effects and low-gloss finishes need careful matching if a panel is damaged later.

Look past the first impression

Review the finished car with us

Check the colour in suitable light and from more than one angle. Look at the agreed sheen and texture, then open the doors, bonnet and boot to review the areas included in your quote.

Check the refitted trim, painted edges and affected fittings. Ask about anything that differs from the sample or agreed coverage before collection.

Keep a clear record of the change for your insurer and any future buyer. A different colour can suit your taste beautifully, but it does not guarantee a higher resale value.

A clear paintwork promise

Your two-year paint warranty

Our paintwork carries a two-year warranty under the written paint-warranty terms. The quotation and invoice identify the vehicle, painted areas and agreed work.

The two-year warranty is for paintwork only. It does not create the same cover for body repairs, replacement parts, wrap materials, peelable coatings or mechanical and electrical work. Confirm any separate product or service terms.

Report a paint concern with the invoice and clear photographs before another workshop alters the surface. New scratches, stone chips and impacts are not the same as a paintwork defect.

With 10+ years of experience and 200+ happy clients, we focus on the details that make your choice worthwhile: preparation, the agreed finish and a result you can inspect.

Car colour-change questions

Choose the method, coverage and finish with the practical details in view.

How much does a painted car colour change cost?

Our planning range for a full painted colour change is AED 7,350–26,250 including 5% VAT. Vehicle size, preparation, body repairs, finish, dismantling and painted openings affect the final quote. Partial changes and removable-finish options are quoted separately. Government charges are not included.

Is a colour change the same as a full repaint?

Not necessarily. A same-colour exterior repaint refreshes the original appearance. A colour change introduces a different colour, so door shuts, returns and other exposed openings need an explicit coverage decision. A full exterior price does not automatically include every hidden surface.

Can I change only the roof or mirrors?

Yes, a partial painted change can be assessed and quoted for the selected parts. Confirm the parts, finish and removal work with us. Check any permission and vehicle-record requirements for the proposed partial or two-tone appearance before starting.

Do I need approval for a colour wrap as well?

Do not assume a removable material makes a colour change exempt. Confirm the proposed appearance with Dubai Police and the licensing authority before work, then follow the required inspection and vehicle-record update. The workshop’s quotation is not a substitute for official approval.

Can every colour or effect be used?

Bring your reference and we will discuss available materials and a physical sample. Specialist effects, unusual colours and graphics need their own availability and approval checks. We do not promise that every online colour or design is available or acceptable for road use.

Should I paint or wrap a car with peeling paint?

Peeling coatings, corrosion and damaged panels need assessment before either method. Film does not repair a failing surface underneath it. Agree the preparation first, then compare permanent paint with a suitable removable finish.

Can I return to the original colour later?

A painted change is permanent and returning to the original colour requires repainting. A suitable removable film or coating may be removable, but the outcome depends on the underlying finish, product, condition and removal method. Previously repaired or poorly bonded paint can be vulnerable.

How long should I allow?

Allow around 5–10 days as a planning guide for a full painted change and around 3–5 days for a smaller or partial painted change. Extensive preparation, extra coverage and materials can extend that. Confirm a collection estimate after inspection, with approval and registration timing considered separately.

What does the two-year warranty cover?

The two-year warranty is for paintwork only, under the written terms and for the agreed painted areas. Other repairs, parts, films and removable coatings have separate terms. New impact damage or stone chips are not automatically paintwork warranty concerns.

Can I change a financed or leased car?

Confirm the owner’s or lender’s conditions before booking and discuss the change with your insurer. Permission to use the vehicle does not automatically mean permission to repaint or wrap it. Keep the approvals and updated vehicle records together with the workshop paperwork.
